" Pandemic" by Batul Raja

Behind every mask

Is a miserable figure

Within every person

Is a heart filled with fear

Some have lost their job

Others have lost their mind

Will this cruel time end?

For this virus has been unkind

Some have lost their parents

Others have lost their friends

It’s a fate worse than death

Will this heartache ever end?

Every day you stay up late

In the morning crawl out of bed

No riding to school today

Stare at the screen all day instead

You go out today

Stare at the empty streets

Your mask hides your tears

Your heart feels incomplete

You struggle to make ends meet

You just don’t know how to cope

You wish God would answer your prayer

You hold onto your hope

You can feel the loneliness in the air

The sick gasping for their breath

Their last minutes spent alone

No one to mourn their death

How long have we been house-bound?

This virus is everywhere

Every individual has the same question

Will there be an end to this nightmare?

But this virus hasn’t been all bad

It’s taught people to take a stand

And when the world is in despair

It’s taught them to lend a helping hand

"Fire" by Nikitha Muruga nagarajan

Friendships are like a fire

Burning with love

The happiness soars

Flies like a dove

The kindling is needed

From both sides

Continue spreading equally

Or else the fire dies

If someone is unhappy

Make them feel better

Insulting them more

Is like dousing it with water

And someone gives up

On this beautiful fire

Letting it burn

But the flames don’t get any higher

The fire is dying

Fix it quick

If you don’t

This friendship is at a risk

Fires are mutual

The flames might fight

But at the end

It’s going to be alright
