School, an institution where students learn. There are many great things about school, but there are also many things that schools need to fix. But what exactly do schools need to fix though? Some schools have poor education/learning systems, and many schools across the U.S. need to do better when it comes to the health of their students. The food that schools serve are not always the best. There are so many things that school need to fix.

Education For Students

Teachers need to engage students in lessons more often. Some students won’t learn by copying words off the whiteboard onto a piece of paper. According to Washington.edu, students are more focused when they are engaged in the lesson. Research also shows that engaging students in lessons will motivate them to practice higher level critical thinking skills and promotes meaningful learning experiences. By encouraging students to participate and be engaged in lessons, students will be able to learn more.

Homework is a waste of time. Students should be allowed to take a break from school, and enjoy themselves. Children spend 7 hours at school, they shouldn’t go home just to do more school work. According to this University of San Diego Article, 56% of the students they interviewed said that homework was the main source of stress. Some students stay up at night because of homework. If students don’t have enough time to work on a project, they may stay up at night to finish their project. This is making kids lose sleep. This is why homework should be removed from schools across the U.S.

The Health of The Students

The health of students. School really isn’t doing the best to help keep students healthy. Such as social distancing. But schools don’t do much for students who have injured themselves. And school has very unsanitary areas. Some schools even serve expired food! This is very unhealthy for students.

The things that nurses do for you aren’t always helpful. Students can injure themselves pretty severely and all the nurses will do is give you ice and some bandages. Many students can relate to this. They need to give you propper aids. Giving a student ice isn't going to help a student who got hurt badly. The nurses need to do more for students and their injuries.

Schools need to do better when it comes to bathrooms. In most schools, the bathrooms are worn down with graffiti and aren't cleaned very well by the janitor. It is very unsanitary and is not safe for childrens’ health. There was a trend that promoted theft in school bathrooms. The trend involved stealing soap dispensers. Without soap dispensers, students would not have anything to clean their hands with. Again, this is very unsanitary. Buildings.com interviewed students grades 9 through 12 involving school bathrooms. From these interviews, Buildings.com found two main reasons why students rarely wash their hands. One being, that there is no soap or paper towels. The second reason being, that the sinks are dirty or not working. Schools need to fix this to help create a safer learning environment.

School food is good, but it is not always healthy. For instance, videos on TikTok show how bad school lunches are at school. One video shows how slimy the milk is. When the student poured the milk out the container, the milk was one big slimy gush. This is very disgusting. Some kids are outraged because of the food the school is giving them. According to Inside Edition some kids have started a new trend called “Food Shaming” . This trend shows the nasty, lazy, misleading food that schools give to the students. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boMTNOjfQ6E&t=5s & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqqGEjJtIcA

Overall, the school system is not that good. People need to speak up about the cons of the school system and schools need to do something about this. Hopefully, schools across the U.S. will do something about these problems and create better learning space for students.
